Dual Boot Your Mactel

Ever since Apple announced that they would be switching to Intel, people have been dreaming about a dual boot Mac. I'll admit that I have fallen sway at times to this idea and would agree that to only have one machine and still be able to do all the Windows testing on it that I want but not have to own another machine would be great. But when the first Intel Mac's were released, they did not support it and, according to Phil Schiller, vice-president of Worldwide Product Marketing, “Apple has no desire or plan to sell or support Windows, but many customers have expressed their interest to run Windows on Apple's superior hardware now that we use Intel processors”.

This morning, Apple threw their hat into the ring with the release of the beta Boot Camp. This software will officially allow anyone with an Intel Mac to run XP on their machine in a dual boot configuration. Apple has said that this functionality will be integrated into Leopard, the next version of Mac OS X, but has been release early as a beta. While this is all nice and good, what I'm waiting for is seamless integration between OS X and XP. When I click on an .exe on my Mac, I want it to open in a sheet just like Safari, or any other application. Sure there are issues with that, but that would be real dual “booting” capability that would be real useful. No rebooting, no running Virtual PC, just click and go.
